While a student at the prestigious Military Medical School Academy in Mexico City, Ruben heeded President Roosevelt's call for Mexicans to come help America with the WW II war effort.
Bracero in McMinnville, Oregon
Ruben, worked on the railroad system, important to the war effort. His second assignment was in McMinnville. These workers have been called "Railroad Soldiers."
Santa Maria Hospital After War
Having returned to Mexico following his Bracero assignment, he was able to come back to the U.S. After working in Los Angeles, he moved to a hospital in Santa Maria.

Ruben and Alberta were married for 62 years, until his passing in 2010.

Jim Houser in 1965 in front of Dayton's second VML office. Jim lived for a year in the nearby Eola Village migrant camp. In 2011 Jim flew to Washington, D.C. to be introduced in the balcony by President Obama during the State of the Union Address. As a Special Deputy Sheriff
Ruben did police, and court translation for many years in Yamhill County. In the 1960s he was made an official Special Deputy by Sheriff Bud Meekers. Ruben held his position until his 2010 death under Sheriff Jack Crabtree.
